Budget Reform

“In tough economic times, leadership on public and private pay parity should start at home.  The state budget must be sustainable; without fiscal improvements in the state budget, I will oppose blanket salaries increases for state representatives and not accept one myself.” ~ Scott Houseman

Our state budget is structurally unsustainable.  It should be stable enough to provide predictable services and local aid in tough economic times.  Continuing cuts in local aid and school foundation spending undermine confidence in government.  Scott will work on:

• Help for city budgets by controlling municipal health care costs
• Unfunded public pension liabilities
• Making state budget choices clear so people can participate in budget debates
• Reasonable parity between private and public sector salary and benefit increases
• Supporting funding for business growth, infrastructure, and services for those in need
