More About Scott & His Family
- Scott’s father was a WWII sailor on General Douglas McArthur’s flagship, the USS Boise, during the long hard battles to regain control of the South Pacific. The Boise was called the “one-ship fleet” for its mighty performance in the battles of Cape Esperance and Surigao Straits.
- His father was a 50 year member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworkers.
- Scott’s mother was an elementary public school teacher and librarian for her entire career. At the start of her years as a teacher, she taught in a one-room school house. She was a member of the National Education Association.
- Scott went to elementary school in both a two-room school house and a three-room school house. While it sounds amazing, in the fall, the school houses would close for a time so Scott and his fellow students could help bring in the potato harvest for the surrounding farms.
- Scott grew up in Michigan. His high school colors were the same as Beverly High School colors: orange and black. The colors of his alma mater, University of Michigan, are the same as his campaign colors, maize and blue.
- Scott and Debbie’s daughter Haley is a 2009 graduate of Beverly High School. She loved Ms. Pilanen’s and Mr. Novak’s drama and music programs. She was a member of the BHS marching band.
