Persistence Nets $95,000 for Beverly & Results in Quieter RR Crossings
In 2008, Beverly received a check for $95,000 solely through the dogged efforts of Scott Houseman. After becoming aware that Verizon had made insufficient rent payments to the city over the course of years, Scott took action. Initially, neither Verizon nor the city had clear records to indicate the payments had been missed. Through quiet persistence, over the course of several years, Scott collected the information and made the contacts needed to result in the payment.
Mayor Scanlon publicly thanked Scott and decided to use $35,000 from the payment to install quieter electronic bells at five key railroad intersections in the city.
“I wish to advise you that the City of Beverly recently received $95,584.40.…” “This successful recovery of significant funds was only possible because of the persistent efforts of Scott Houseman, well-known Beverly resident. I would like to publicly thank Scott for his work.”
